FROM SHORTLIST TO SHOWROOM
Make your in-store mattress test count
A practical checklist for testing an exact mattress model, confirming showroom availability, comparing delivery and understanding the retailer’s return policy.
Bring a plan, even before choosing a product
After your fitting, save your store plan and QR. It includes your selected size, comparison budget, a visit checklist and any products you choose. If no reviewed products are available, the plan still works; it does not invent mattress recommendations or local display stock.
Names, contact details, body measurements, discomfort and conversations stay out of this portable copy. New QR codes, downloads and emails exclude FitGrid coordinates and personal fit scores. They are shopping-only copies, not private-profile access keys. Portable copies have no remote expiry or revocation; copies already shared cannot be recalled. Anyone you give the link or QR can read that copy. Share it only with people you want to see it.
Use a fitting range to organize comparisons, not to override what you experience. A coordinate does not verify spinal alignment, a mattress load limit or overnight sleep quality. A brief store trial can help you assess feel; it is not a guarantee that a bed will suit you at home.
Confirm the bed before you travel
A mattress on a retailer’s website is not proof that it is displayed at your local store. Ask the location for the exact brand, model, comfort version and display size. A product family, a purchasable size variant and a showroom display are different records.
Somni’s public model pages link to source information. They do not confirm live inventory, distance, delivery eligibility or a retailer partnership. Your ZIP helps describe shopping needs in the quiz; it is not an availability check.
Test what you actually do at night
Spend time in your usual sleeping positions and turn as you normally would. Note pressure, ease of movement and edge comfort separately. If you use a pillow during the test, check that its height is reasonably comparable to what you intend to use.
For a shared bed, both sleepers should try their usual positions together as well as individually. Ask an associate to record each person’s observations rather than collapsing them into one preference. Pressure mapping, where available, adds assessment information; it does not replace your own comfort feedback.
Compare the full purchase conditions
Before paying, ask the seller to confirm the selected size and comfort version, total delivered price, base compatibility, access requirements and removal service. Obtain the current trial, return and exchange terms in writing.
Ask when a trial begins, whether a minimum adjustment period applies, what fees or condition requirements apply, and who arranges collection. A manufacturer warranty is different from a retailer comfort trial. Somni is initially a discovery and referral service, not the seller of record; the selling company governs the transaction.
Make later feedback specific
Keep the purchased model, comfort version and purchase date with your own notes. If a bed does not work for you, record what changed: pressure in a particular position, difficulty moving, temperature, edge feel or a different preference.
Specific observations make an exchange conversation more useful. Somni’s feedback loop is intended to improve future fitting, but it does not automatically authorize a return or change the retailer’s terms.
